Comprised of Carnival veterans from several other Orleans Parish parading organizations, the Ancient Druids wanted to fill an empty slot on the parade calendar, providing New Orleanians and visitors with a first-class parade one week before Fat Tuesday. A most unusual krewe, the Ancient Druids are a parade-only krewe, eschewing bal masques and traditional royalty. Their membership is also limited to members of other Carnival organizations and sits at a cut-off of 200 members. However, there is one traditon that the Druids observe; the complete secrecy of its members and its king, the Archdruid, whose identity is never revealed.
